About Our Pastor
Pastor Dennis Sherman trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of
six. He was challenged early in his life to study the Word of God and to mature in
his Christian life. While in high school he became involved in evangelism and
discipleship through Youth for Christ and his local church youth group. At the time
of his graduation from high school, he was asked to direct the summer camping program at
Wynola Bible Conference near Julian, California.
That began a ministry of teaching and training believers that continues to this day.
He came to Irvine Community Church as pastor at the age of twenty-one
during his senior year at Biola Universtiy. He graduated from Biola in
1969. Pastor Dennis met his wife, Terry on a trip to Israel in 1971 and they
were married in 1972. They have two sons, Steve and Mark.
The passion of Pastor Dennis heart is to teach the Bible verse by verse.

About our History
Irvine Community Church, Irvine's oldest, began on January 17, 1932,
when a Sunday School was organized on the Irvine Ranch, sponsored by the American Sunday
School Union (now called American Missionary
Fellowship). An old schoolhouse on Sand Canyon Avenue was home to the Sunday
School. Irvine Community Church grew out of this Sunday School. By November
23, 1945, the church was incorporated and the first part-time pastor came in February
1946. A building was needed to conduct a full church program. After much
discussion and prayer, the trustees began in 1948 planning the new building on faith
at a time when offerings were $15 per month. James Irvine donated the land and small
amounts began to arrive. After much prayer, sacrifice, and hard work, the
congregation moved in their new place of worship in October 1951.
About Our Future
As the Lord tarries, we witness the faithfulness of God. In years
past, we ministered to families at El Toro Marine Base. Since the Base
has closed,
Irvine Community Church is poised on the edge of a new era in its ministry. We are
actively reaching out for new ministries, opportunities, and dreams as we expand our
horizons. Building on our heritage and faith in God, we are preparing to meet the
unique challenges facing our mission field in the years to come.
